Question

Invalid Ldap server

We are currently experiencing an “Invalid LDAP Server” error while trying to browse LDAP users on our FortiGate.

Fortinet Support has confirmed that this is a known bug and the case has been escalated to the Development Team. However, there is no confirmed timeline or ETA for the fix, and no hotfix is currently available.

Before waiting for the official fix, I would like to check:

  • Has anyone else faced this issue?

  • Were you able to find any temporary workaround?

  • Did upgrading/downgrading firmware resolve it?

  • Any CLI workaround or configuration adjustment that helped?

Environment details:

  • FortiGate model: 601F

  • Firmware version: 7.4.9

  • LDAP type: Active Directory

  • Error occurs while browsing users from GUI

Any suggestions or shared experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You should ask these questions to TAC through the ticket you have. They should have the answers. By the way if you are running 7.4.9, you must be seeing a big annoying warning in GUI recommending to upgrade it to 7.4.11 asap.

is this a upgrade to 7.4.9 or you had it for a while already ?

We upgraded the FortiGate to version 7.4.9 last October. Prior to that, LDAP was not in use, so we are unsure whether this issue existed earlier.

During recent configuration and testing, we encountered the “Invalid LDAP Server” error.

have a look at - https://community.fortinet.com/t5/FortiGate/Troubleshooting-Tip-LDAP-connectivity-fails-with-error-This/ta-p/424025

if you are using a binded LDAP user to browse the LDAP directory check to see if the user is blocked or not.
