Start FortiClient VPN ERROR JavaScript on ARM64 System

Hi,
After installing FortiClient (FortiClientVPNSetup_7.4.3.1790_ARM64), it worked great.
After a week, I can no longer start FortiClient.
ERROR Screenshot 2025-04-08 142320.png
I've already uninstalled it and tried FCRemover.exe.
Nothing helped.
What's the problem, what can I do?
Regards, Martin

Hello again Martin,

I found this solution, can you tell me if it helps you, please?

To address the "A JavaScript error occurred in the main process" issue with FortiClient on Windows 11, follow these steps:

  1. Check Compatibility: Ensure that the version of FortiClient you are using is compatible with Windows 11 ARM64 architecture.
  2. Reinstall FortiClient: Uninstall the current FortiClient using the standard Windows uninstallation process. Download the latest compatible version of FortiClient for ARM64 from the official Fortinet website and install the downloaded version.
  3. Clear Cache and Temporary Files: Use the Disk Cleanup tool to clear temporary files and system cache.
  4. Update System: Ensure that your Windows 11 is up to date with the latest patches and updates.
  5. Check for JavaScript Errors: If the error persists, check for any JavaScript-related issues in your system that might be causing the error. If the problem continues after these steps, consider reaching out to Fortinet support for further assistance.

Hello,

The error is back again today.
Uninstalled, restarted, and reinstalled!
Cleared the cache
=> No change

After updating to FortiClientSetup_7.4.4.1887.F_ARM64, the client won't even start anymore.

What can I do?

I got it working with FortiClientSetup_7.4.4.1887.F_ARM64 this way:

  1. Uninstalled everything FortiClient related
  2. Uninstalled everything Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable related
  3. Installed FortiClientSetup_7.4.4.1887.F_ARM64 - After that FortiClient would not launch thogh, so another step was needed:
  4. Installed Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable ARM64, restarted PC and then FortiClient finally opened.

But there's a problem, it's the full FortiClient version, which requires EMS support, otherwise it works as a trial for 30 days.

There is no free FortiClient VPN only version for 7.4.4, 7.4.3 is the latest and it didn't work even with those steps above.

Hi,

I also experienced a JavaScript error on a Windows 11 machine with an ARM64 system. After uninstalling both FortiClient VPN and Microsoft Visual C++ and downloading the latest versions, I can’t even run the FortiClient VPN installer anymore (see image). I have also cleared the cache, restarted Windows, etc. Nothing helped. I would appreciate any assistance in resolving this issue.

Be carefull.
Forticlient version 7.4.3 and Forticlient
VPN 7.4.3 have a vulnerability: CVE-2025-46373 with a high Severity!

There is no VPN 7.4.4 Client available. Fortinet is distributing the older vulnerable version trough the fortinet.com website and don't give support for the Free VPN only Client.

If you log in and then go to Downloads > Forticlient, you can download version 7.4.4!

Yes you can download Forticlient 7.4.4 but not the VPN only. It doesn't exist.

From the release notes:

FortiClient (Windows) 7.4.4 does not include a new version of the free VPN-only agent as no feature
updates were made to the free VPN-only agent between 7.4.3 and 7.4.4. Users can continue to use the
FortiClient (Windows) 7.4.3 free VPN-only agent.

I received information they are working on a VPN only 7.4.4 client but no ETA yet.

This only addresses the install issue that one person here reported, not the JavaScript error that comes up when launching the client.

Try to uninstall and re-install the vpn again and your issue will be resolved. I had same case and this method solved the Java script issue.

FortiClient VPN-only hotfix 7.4.3.8758 was released on December 11th, installed it on my ARM Surface laptop and it worked without any JavaScript errors.
