Fortinet 40C interfaces

Hi!

I've found the information about VLAN interfaces in "The FortiGate CookBook" brochure page 75.

http://kb.fortinet.com/kb/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=Fortigate-Cookbook-40-mr3Part2pages75-159pdf&sliceId=&docTypeID=DT_PRODUCTDOCUMENTATION_1_1&dialogID=65331582&stateId=0 0 65329902

But why I can not to add a new interface VLAN-type in Fortinet 40C? There is not such menu in "System > Network > Interface".

Not in front of my own 40C at the moment, but I recall you have to create them via the CLI.

That is correct. Some features were removed or hidden in the CLI on the smaller units. The FG30D for example runs "GUI Lite". This can be disabled though.

Still upset that anet removed VDOM support and DNS database from the 40C on the 5.x firmware. :(

I have "FGT40C-4.00-FW-build496-111202" firmware. May be do I need to update it for additional GIU options..?

No, what we are stating is creating VLANs via the GUI has been removed from the 40C and other low-end Fortigates.  You can still create VLANS on the 40C but only from the CLI.

Losing the DNS Database was annoying. It was a useful feature.

Having VDOMs was handy too. The FG40C is a good entry level box and handy for learning how to [strike]break[/strike] create networks.

I think they've stopped manufacturing 40C for some time by now. Now it's very hard to find it on the market. 60C/D is the smallest modem to support VDOMs.

Not sure about manufactoring 40C, but i had no problem finding one just 2-3 month ago. 60D is by far better than 40C, but the price difference is not high but enough to have an impact for SOHO customers.

We order them in bulk through Fortinet's Sales directly, but delivered via one of distributors. We were told to order FWF40Cs instead.
