Changing LDAP common name identifier

Hello, I have a LDAP server authentication configured on the fortigate to use the uid as the common name identifier. But I need to change the common name identifier from uid to mail attribute. I have many users already configured using the uid attribute.

I fear of changing the config from uid to mail and result in lost user authentication.

Does anybody passed through this problem? May I change without problems?
