Question

50E, v6.2.3 Basic failover

Hello,

I know this has been answered thoroughly on the forums and outside but I'm still lost. I've been tasked with configuring a basic Failover on 50E and I'm struggling to configure it correctly. This is my first Fortigate device plus I'm very new to this kind of stuff. I've read few tutorials how to configure a redundant WAN but it was for 5.x version and some cli commands no longer work. I also read about SD WAN but I think it's all beyond my current skill.

I currently have WAN1 which is the primary internet, plus I plugged our ISP' LTE router into WAN2. All I need is for Fortigate to monitor WAN1 and switch to WAN2 as soon as the primary one goes down.

I'd be very grateful for any help,

Rob.

This is relatively new KB not for 5.x. Only problem I see in KB is the link-monitor on wan2 is not necessary unless you have the 3rd circuit. Only you need with link-monitor is to detect wan1 down and remove static route toward it. Then do the opposite when it comes back up.

I would suggest using SD-WAN for your scenario if you're up for a little learning.  Remember, Fortinet's training is free through the end of the year.  Just set up an account at training.fortinet.com and guzzle all you can.
