Technical Tip: Console errors 'Fatal Python error: init_import_site: Failed to import the site module'

There are some cases when FortiWeb is not responding, and upon connecting to the console, below errors can be seen, and these errors will come in a loop:

Current thread 0x00007f8e870f6740 (most recent call first):
<no Python frame>
ERR: clicfg_load_vdomstatus create query for system.global failed
ERR: load vdom status failed.
init failed for sys monitor
shmget failed 4208785 No such file or directory
Fatal Python error: init_import_site: Failed to import the site module
Python runtime state: initialized
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'site'

This can come due to the storage or partition issue preventing reading the config, or disk read error, or firmware corruption as well. 

Possible solutions to resolve the issue:

1. Try to reboot the device (remove the power cable and plug it back in after 5 minutes).
2. After reboot, on the console, run below command:

execute fscklogdisk

If that does not work, then try to run the following command:

execute formatlogdisk

3. If the above two solutions do not work, try to format the boot device and restore firmware via TFTP. For that, follow the article below:

4. If all the above workarounds have been tried and did not work, then contact Support to verify if it is a hardware issue, and the device will be sent for RMA.
