Technical Tip: Managed switch losing configuration

The issue where FortiSwitch loses configs (for example VLAN config, speed...etc) after reboot or periodically, verify if the switch is in config-sync error with FortiGate or not.

1. Run the below command on FortiGate to check the sync-status:

execute switch-controller get-conn-status

2. If all the switches are in the synced state, check if config changes are made locally on the switch. The switch will lose local changes once it is synced with the FortiGate database. Therefore Local config changes are not recommended on the managed FortiSwitch.
3. For troubleshooting, the below debug can be collected to check if configs are getting pushed to Switch from FortiGate or not:

• On FortiGate start the below debug:

diagnose debug cli 8

diag debug enable

• On FortiSwitch, start the below debug:

   diagnose debug cli 8

   diag debug enable

• To disable debug:

   diag debug disable

4. Push the config from FortiGate and verify if switch debugs reflect any config reaching the FortiSwitch.
