Troubleshooting Tip: BGP Error 'unrecognized capability code 5 len 6'

In BGP debug:

diagnose ip router bgp all enable

diagnose debug enable

In BGP debugs Cisco:

OPEN has CAPABILITY code: 5, length 6

unrecognized capability code: 5

The debug output above can be collected with the following command:

debug bgp ipv4 unicast in

Note: The remote peer is Cisco running on IOS or IOS-XE.

 Workaround

• Identify the unsupported capability that is being advertised, and reconfigure the peers for matching BGP capability.
