Technical Tip: Using Load Balancers

Description

This article describes how to use Load Balancers with FortiGates in HA mode.

Solution

FortiGates running FortiOS 2.8 can work with external load balancing hardware when running in HA cluster mode.

When configuring the HA options ( System -> Config -> HA), select None for the HA Schedule.

Load balancers that have proven to work well with FortiGates include:

- Nortel "alteon" series or AS series.
- Cisco 35XX series and 48XX series.
- RiverStone switches.
- Radware's Content Inspection Detector.
