Technical Tip: Disable 'New Features Video'

In rare occurrences, in FortiOS 6.4 firmware prior to version 6.4.6, an administrator who selects 'Don’t show again' will continue to see the video pop-up each time logging in despite selecting it to not be displayed. This article describes how to disable it using the CLI.

All supported versions of FortiGate.

Solution

The user account can be recreated to resolve this or the following command will prevent the pop-up from showing:

config system admin
    edit <admin username>
        set gui-ignore-release-overview-version "6.4.1"
    end

In FortiOS v7.6, the pop-up video can be prevented from appearing by using the following commands:

For example, in FortiOS v7.6.3:

config system admin
    edit <admin username>
        set gui-ignore-release-overview-version 7.6        <----- Enter 7.6, not 7.6.3.
    end

The same applies for FortiOS v7.4.x:

FortiGate-1 # conf system admin
FortiGate-1 (admin) # edit admin
FortiGate-1 (admin) # set gui-ignore-release-overview-version 7.4 

Note: 'set gui-ignore-release-overview-version' is a hidden command and it will not appear when typing exclamation mark or tab to autocomplete, neither is the command visible if a show full-configuration is issued.
