Odd Console Port Issue

Greetings: --We can' t seem to make a connection to the console port on two older Fortigate 60s using a DB9 to RJ45 cable. --We need to reset lost passwords on the units and understood this is done by logging in at the console via HyperTerminal, PuTTY, etc. --We know the devices are good because we can access them via HTTP/S, SSH; DHCP works too. We also know the terminal settings are correct. We just can' t get connected via either console port. --We' ve tried different cables (the ones supplied with the units) as well as various PCs and terminal emulation software, etc. to no avail. The terminal logs always show the configuration settings but no connection take place. --It strikes us as odd that we have the exact same problem on the same two devices. We' d be grateful for any ideas. Thank you. Patrick

I always use the supplied Fortinet cable or a Cisco serial DB9-to-RJ45 cable which also works. I use HyperTerm for a serial connection. Settings are: COM1 9600 baud 8-N-1 No flow control Emulation: VT100 nothing checked in ' Terminal Setup' or ' ASCII Setup' - no extra LFs, no local echo, no 7bit etc. After connecting the cables and setup of the COM port press ENTER a couple of times. Now the status should show ' Connected' . If you' ve got the speed wrong you won' t see any characters. Try all speeds from 1200 to 115k. You can' t miss it.

Hi Ede: --Thanks, that did the trick. We re-set both to factory defaults after logging in with the CLI. All the best, Patrick
