accessing fortigate console

Hi I have a FG60 that' s not configured for DHCP thus handing out a 169.x.x.x address. I would like to access it and factory reset it. What' s the easiest way for me to do that? Can this be done without using the DB9-Ethernet cable? I have a laptop without a com port. Also does anybody have a recommendation for a Hypertherm alternative on the Mac OS X? Thanks in advance.

Hi, the FGT is not handing out any IP, your PC is taking one 169.254.x.y APIPA address as nobody answers the DHCP request. The FGT interfaces still have the IP addresses they were configured to. Either you can guess that address AND http or ssh access is configured on that interface AND you know the admin password, or you need access to the serial port. I think it' s easier to get hold of a PC with a serial port for a couple of minutes than trying out IP/password combos. Nothing special about the serial cable, just a nullmodem type (as we call it here). And for the terminal software, nothing special again: 9600, 8, N, 1. Any vt100 emulation will do. If you have to clear the admin password you can search the forums for " recovery" to get a detailed how-to.

? Thanks in advance.
For macosx you can using the " screen" utility and specify your dev for terminal emulation. e.g screen /dev/tty.keyspan Execute " man screen" to see all of your options and choices. Other alternatives are to use zterm or launch a XP-vm within vmware fusion and go that route ;)

Also ZTERM for mac is nice to use.
