Hi guys,
I hope you're well.
I want to rename a managed FortiSwitch but when I attempt to do this I get the below error:
I have done this many times in the past this way and have never received this error, the FortiSwitch is currently running 7.4.3 and the FortiGate 7.2.9.
In the past when I have done this, it has been with switches I have manually authorized and configured from scratch however, with this since it was a larger install I pre-configured the FortiGate switch-controller with all my switch configurations that is the only difference I can think of.
Does anyone have any ideas if it is possible still?
Regards,
Dan.

Hello @Dan_Eng52 ,
What is your FortiOS version?
You can still do it using the following article:
https://docs.fortinet.com/document/fortiswitch/7.6.0/fortilink-guide/59264/defining-names-for-manage...
https://community.fortinet.com/t5/FortiGate/Technical-Tip-Managed-FortiSwitch-hostname-config-on-7-4...
I believe you are logged in as a super-admin user to make these changes.
Can you remove the "-" from the new name and use a simple name (e.g. switch123) and test again?
Hi Akumar02,
I hope you're well.
I am logged in as a super-admin but unfortunately using a simple naming convention has not worked and I still receive the same error message:
We are currently running FortiOS 7.2.9 and FortiSwitchOS 7.4.3 I have done this many times before without any issues so not too sure if this is just because I am running this version.
Many thanks,
Dan.
Hi dwivedis,
Thanks for your response.
I have already done this within the GUI but this doesn't actually change the name within the managed switch-controller CLI only in the GUI. In the managed switch controller I used to be able to run the rename <original switch name> to <new switch name> and this would change the name from being a serial number to something more memorable in CLI.
I'm thinking this could be a bug as I have a number of other firewalls running different version and I was able to succesfully run this command and make the name change.
Regards,
Dan.
