Is renewal mandatory for fortigate FG60D

Hi,

Our FG60D license is about to expire by this month is this renewal mandatory. What will we lose if we don’t renew?

Our main purpose to buy this router for "VPN" only

You don't need license for VPN (SSL or IPSec).

License permits you to open support ticket and to download firmware (FortiCare) or to download updates for Antivirus, IPS or to query FortiGuard for WebFilter and Antispam and things like these.

I would highly recommend you to renew at least 8x5 FortiCare support contract, as it will allow you to use Fortinet technical support, but more importantly: as long as you renew your FortiCare, Fortinet will replace your device if it fails during normal operation (subject to warranty terms and conditions).

If you don't renew your FortiGuard subscriptions, you will loose: AntiMalware (no more definition updates), Web Filtering based on FortiGuard URL Categories (but you'll still have static URL filtering), AntiSpam, Application Control, IPS (no more signature updates), FortiDDNS....
