Is it possible to get FortiGate to use USB-tethering of an android smartphone instead of a real USB LTE modem for the WWAN connection?

When I plug in the phone to my desktop, NetworkManager brings up the connection without further interaction and further configuration. My cable router can also use the phone as a fallback.
Any ideas how to make FG recognize and use the usb-tethering?
TIA, Oliver

Hello Oliver,
I have contacted one of our engineers and the answer is that it is it not possible to make FortGate recognized and use the USB-tethering.
Regards,
Hi,
I have similar question. Is there a possibility to connect FG100E or 100F to internet via USB and MIFI router? As backup connection? ZTE MF 971R for example?

It is quite possible that we can use usb tethering via mobile to provide internet connection in FortiGate device, I have used earlier in Fortinet 200F via simply enable modem, it was working but in recent day's it is not working with just simply enable modem.
Instead of we can use this by enabling Wimax-usb. Use below mentioned command.
config system lte-modem
set status enable
this will create another interface as "wwan" , set it to dhcp and simply connect mobile via usb port and enable usb tethering in mobile device.
integrate interface in sdwan if you are using sdwan and just enjoy the feature.
