fortimail slow delivering messages

Hello I am in the processes of install a fortimail 400 and the biggest issue I have run into is the unit appears to take an extremely long time to process inbound and outbound mail tests have taken up to 3 or 4 minutes to deliver mail. In the logs I keeps seeing a number of errors in the logs related to this I/O errir on connection from static host Lost inpub channel from timeout waiting for input from premature EOM reset There is a 10Mb connection to the internet so there are no latency issues, that could be causing the problems. Spam profile is currently set to the default Medium setting any suggestions? thanks

I would check 3 things first: 1. Routing. 2. DNS service. you could test DNS lookup with CLI command exec nslookup host www.yahoo.com 3. Try to test port 25 of your internal mail server and a remote mail server with CLI: exec telnettest a.mx.mail.yahoo.com:25

Could quite possibly be a duplex mismatch on one of the ethernet ports. check both ends settings on all connected cables.

thanks for the input, I think I found the problem. Someone had configured the unit to point to internal router for its default gateway instead of to the fortigate which is where its Static NAT is being done.
