Hi everyone. I' m looking for some advice and best practices regarding traffic shaping. I' m trying to get the best experience for our internet users her with a fixed amount of bandwidth.
I have 4 groups of businesses with different amounts of guaranteed and burst bandwidth for each group.
The existing groups have one shared traffic shaper each. This does not work very well at peak times or if there' s a large download going on.
I am migrating them to a new faster internet link.
I though that I would create specific traffic shapers for:
https/https for each group at medium priority
cloud storage, FTP, video, radio, SMTP at a lower priority which would be applied across all the groups
VoIP services high priority traffic shaper with guaranteed bandwidth
My thoughts are this would make general browsing faster, and other less time sensitive services such as SMTP and Dropbox might take a little longer to sync/send.
I would welcome any real world experiences or advice you may have.
I also plan to throw some VDOMS into the mix because I like giving myself a headache :)
In brief:
