How bad is disk logging? Is it different for FortiGate' s 40, 60 and 100 models? I remember warnings about it when I tried enabling it for some 40 or 60 models. I read documentation for 5.2 and didn' t see such warnings.

The media on smaller devices was never designed for sustained logging. In 5.2, I think the OS shouldn' t even allow you to enable the feature. For those models, you' re best to deploy an SNMP collector, syslog server, or FortiAnalyzer for long-term storage of a large volume of logs. Otherwise, FortiCloud also offers 1Gb of free storage up to the 800 models based on a valid device registration.
