Fortigate upgrade from 60E to 60F Using config

Hello everyone,

I'm an IT engineer at a company currently using FortiGate 60E devices in a high availability (HA) setup (2 units).

We are planning to upgrade both units to FortiGate 60F, and would like to maintain the HA configuration after the upgrade.

We are currently running the following firmware version on the 60E:

#config-version=FGT60F-6.0.4-FW-build0231-190107

I’ve read about the FortiConverter tool, but it appears to require a separate license. Unfortunately, we only purchased the hardware and do not have a FortiConverter license.

I'd really appreciate some advice on the following points:

  • Can we export the configuration from the 60E and import it directly into the 60F?

  • Will there be any compatibility issues or required modifications when migrating the config between these models?

  • Are there any important considerations or steps we need to follow to re-establish the HA setup on the 60F units?

Any recommendations or best practices from those who have done similar migrations would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Can we export the configuration from the 60E and import it directly into the 60F?

Configuration files are not always fully compatible when transferred directly between different FortiGate models.

Thanking you,

Hi Numax

If you want to do it without FortiConverter then consider the following:

  1. Align both 60E and 60F at the same firmware version, because having different versions will cause some errors when importing the config
  2. Once done, backup the 60E cofig
  3. 60E has ports 6 & 7, you need to map them to port A & B on the 60F
  4. Change the backup file header from config-version=FG60E to config-version=FG60F
  5. Try restore the config on 60F
  6. Once done and after 60F reboot, run the following command to check if there is any error.
get system startup-error-log

Hope it helps
