FortiExtender and VDOMs

Hi,

I have a FortiGate (51E with v.6.2.10) configured with two (three including the root VDOM that's not really in use) VDOMs. The VDOMs are configured in to "GUESTS" and "CORPORATE". Each VDOM has one WAN connection today, but I want to add a second internet carrier to one of the VDOMs.

I want to connect a new FortiExtender in my setup and use 5G on demand, but understand that this might be difficult.  Is it correct that you can only use the "root" VDOM with the FortiExtender? Or is that just to manage the unit?

I'm assuming that it's not impossible to get this to work, at least so that I can use the extender in one of my VDOMs, so does anyone have any tips or comments on what I can do to get this to work?

Thanks,

-PM

Could I use inter VDOM routing to achieve this, perhaps? Or are there other ways I use the FortiExtender in a multiple VDOM env.?

Dear Pmh,

Yes your understanding is correct. Fortiextender can only be used in root vdom. It can't be used other vdom.

The workaround for this is - you use the fortiextender in root vdom and then configure the inter-vdom links and routing between the vdoms and you will be able to achieve it.

For more information you can check below link as well.
