This article describes the 'duplicate license has been detected' error that occurs when a previously used license (.lic) file is reused on a different VM instance and offers a solution.
This issue occurs when migrating from one VM to another and also applies to Fortinet products deployed in a public cloud environment.

| Solution |
To resolve this condition, the VM instance that previously used the license must be shut down completely for at least 90 minutes. After 90 minutes, the VM license deregisters from FortiGuard servers, and it will be possible to use it again on a new VM.
