In this example, PRTG is installed on a Windows client which has the following IP assigned via DHCP from FortiGate: IP address: 10.112.4.125
A Windows client is connected with FortiGate on port2 and the configuration of port2 on the FortiGate is as below:
IP address: 10.112.4.124 Subnet Mask: 255.255.240.0
On PRTG, go to Setup -> System Administration -> Monitoring, as below:
After going to 'Monitoring', go to 'Experimental Features' and under 'Beta Sensors', choose 'Enable' and then select 'Save', as below:
For a query on the FortiGate, PRTG needs to use an API token. To generate an API token on the FortiGate, go to: System -> Administrators -> Create New -> REST API Admin, as below:
Specify 'Username', 'Comments' and 'Administrator Profile'. For example:
After selecting 'OK', FortiGate will generate an API token. Copy it and add it into PRTG:
After copying the API token, go to PRTG: Device -> FortiGate -> Settings and then scroll down in order to go to 'Credentials for FortiGate'. Paste the API token there and select 'Save':
To add FortiGate sensor, go to Device -> FortiGate -> Overview -> Add Sensor:
On the page that will be opened, search for FortiGate and in the search results, choose FortiGate System Statistics, as shown below:
On the new page that will be opened, select 'Create', as below:
On the page that will be opened, select the sensor in order to open it:
After opening the sensor, select 'Scan Now', as below:
After taking the action above, the sensor will be up and running and can be monitored for different metrics using PRTG, as shown below: |
