Description The article explains why users may be unable to select an SSID for Radio 3 on the WiFi & Switch Controller.
Scope FortiGate v7.2 and Above.
Solution

When selecting Radio 3, SSIDs cannot be selected manually and the automatic selection does not broadcast any SSID for Radio 3.

When the mouse pointer is hovered over the SSID option the following message given below appears;

WiFi SSID fortinet (Test-1)
Traffic mode Tunnel
Security mode WPA2 Personal

6GHz radios require SSID that use one of the following security modes:

WPA3 Enterprise 192-bit
WPA3 Enterprise Only
WPA3 SAE with Hash-to-Element (H2E) only enabled
Opportunistic Wireless Encryption (OWE) with OWE transition mode disabled

Radio 3 is for WiFi6 and the Security Mode for the SSID is different than for Radio 1 and 2.

A new SSID needs to be created with the appropriate Security Mode to work with Radio 3, the steps are documented below:

From the FortiGate GUI Select the WiFi & Switch Controller and then SSIDs.

The Security Mode has to selected with WPA3 security protocol (e.g. WPA3-Enterprise Only) as shown at the screenshot below:

After creating the SSID with the WPA3 Security protocol, it can be used with Radio 3, which can be selected at the FortiAP Profile.
