FortiAnalyzer can receive logs and Windows host events directly from endpoints connected to EMS, and you can use FortiAnalyzer to analyze the logs and run reports.

Description

 
This article describes how to configure an email server on the FortiAnalyzer to receive reports over email. To set up email notifications for notification.fortinet.net, see: Technical Tip: How to set up Email Notifications with notification.fortinet.net.

Solution

 
  1. Configure an email server under System Settings -> Advanced -> Mail ServerEnter the details as shown below.

  1. Once the Mail server has been configured, go to System Settings -> Advanced -> Mail Server and 'Right-click' the server. After, select Test.

  1. Enter the to and from email addresses to test the configuration.

The following message will be displayed: 'A test email has been successfully sent to xxxx@example.com'.

  1. To receive generated reports via email, configure an Output profile.
  2. Go to Reports -> Advanced -> Output profile -> Create new
    • Select the format(s) that you want the report to be attached to.
    • Enable Email Generated Reports and select the email server created in Step 1.
    • Enter the from/to email address.

  1. Go to ReportsSelect the required report and select Configuration ('Settings' in v5.4 and onward). Enable the option Enable Notification and select the Output Profile.

Troubleshooting:
If have any issues receiving email after the report is generated, the test connection command can be used to verify where it fails between FortiAnalyzer and MailServer, 

 

diagnose test connection mailserver <server-name> <mail-from> <mail-to> 

 

For example: 

 

diagnose test connection mailserver email-example faz@example.com admin@example.com
