Description

This article describes how to solve an issue where the user is not able to authorize a FortiSwitch.

Scope FortiOS.
Solution

Sometimes, the user receives the error 'not able to add VLAN interface in kernel'. The following screenshot shows the error:

If the FortiLink configuration or FortiGate configuration has already been migrated, but it is not possible to authorize the FortiSwitch and the following error appears, take the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check the VLAN created under the FortiLink interface and change the native VLAN ID from 1 to any other VLAN ID. To change the VLAN ID, first remove all references to the VLAN.
  2. Try to authorize the switch. FortiLink will create another VLAN ID '1' and the FortiSwitch will be correctly authorized.
