Description | This article describes why FortiGate directly upgrades to target firmware even if 'Follow Upgrade Path' is selected. |
Scope | FortiGate v7.0.7+, v7.2.0+, v7.4.0+. |
Solution |
The issue is related to known issues on v7.0.7+, v7.2.0+,v 7.4.0+. When upgrading the firmware with multiple hops/jumps of the FortiOS version in the GUI, the 'Follow Upgrade Path' option does not respect the recommended upgrade path. Instead, it directly upgrades to the target FortiOS version. Users can follow the recommended upgrade path by selecting the exact interim GA version to upgrade to. For example, if upgrading from v7.0.7 to v7.0.15, upgrade path will be v7.0.7 -> v7.0.9 -> v7.0.11 -> v7.0.13 -> v7.0.14 -> v7.0.15. Another workaround is to download the firmware images manually at support.fortinet.com. A guide how to download the firmware can be found here.
Instead of selecting v7.0.15, the user can choose the first hop v7.0.9 then upgrade.
