Description |
This article addresses the common error message encountered when attempting to log in to the FortiGate GUI: 'This system is temporarily in maintenance mode and should be available again shortly. (0% complete).'
|
Scope | FortiGate. |
Solution |
In some scenarios, when the FortiGate is abruptly powered off (for example, due to a sudden power disruption or unplugging the device’s power cord without issuing a proper shutdown command), the device may fail to complete its normal boot sequence. As a result, it can enter a recovery or maintenance mode.
This often manifests in the GUI as the message:
Use the following article to connect the FortiGate via Console access:
Once connected via console access, use admin credentials to log in to the FortiGate CLI. The CLI provides the necessary control to resolve the issue when the GUI is inaccessible.
Moreover, FortiGate is unable to process the forward traffic through firewall policies, even if they were working before, FortiGate drops the packet stating that denied by the forward policy check (policy 0).
'diag firewall iprope list 100004', shows no result. However, 'diag firewall iprope list' only shows policy groups 0010000a, 0010000e, 0010000f.
Execute the following command to reboot the FortiGate device:
execute reboot
This operation will reboot the system!
Always shut down the FortiGate gracefully using the CLI command:
execute shutdown
This ensures all processes terminate safely and prevents system corruption.
It is recommended to perform file system checks and gather console logs if the issue persists. Administrators can use console output to identify at which step the maintenance process is stuck and consider reporting it to Fortinet TAC for further investigation. |
