Description This article explains how to manually add a FortiClient EMS license file in the latest Linux EMS 7.4 version
Scope FortiClient Linux EMS v7.4.3+.
Solution

When installing FortiClient EMS v7.4 latest versions in on-prem environments, the welcome page will request addition of a FortiCloud account under which EMS is registered.

EMS licenses for on-prem deployment are linked with the server Hardware ID.

If there are issues validating the FortiCloud account, an error message stating 'Something went wrong while retrieving the license' will show, and the FortiClient EMS GUI will not be available.

At this point, troubleshooting is needed to fix issues with FortiCare connection, as this connection should always work to keep licenses and related changes synced with EMS. If a firewall is restricting access, permissions must be allowed to have a connection to FortiCloud services from the EMS server.

If the EMS server has been installed in an isolated (airgapped) environment, with no Internet access or several network restrictions option is to manually upload the license file - only use this option in an airgapped system.

To download the license file: log into the Fortinet Support site, locate the EMS license, and download the .lic file under License & Key options:

Add the license file in EMS by selecting the airgapped system option:

After selecting the 'Is this an airgapped system?' option, a new window will show, and the license file can be manually uploaded to EMS to complete the registration.
