Description

This article describes how to schedule off-hours full configuration backup with FTP backup.

Scope

FortiWeb.

Solution

Maintaining regular external configuration backup copies may prove essential during an unforeseen incident: for example, during the event of a hardware failure. As such, storing copies of configuration backup files in an external storage server will lower the risk of configuration files going missing.

FTP Backup configuration example:

  1. Browse to Backup & Restore -> FTP Backup and select 'Create New'.

  1. Fill in the necessary FTP Server information and user credentials:

  1. Set the schedule type to 'Daily', then check which days and times are suitable for configuration backup to push a copy to external FTP server. In this instance, the FTP backup is configured to be performed every Wednesday and Saturday.

FTP Server configuration example:

In this instance, Ubuntu vsftpd is used as an example:

  1. Install the vsftpd service with the following command:

ubuntu-apt-install.png

  1. Check the FTP service installation info and ensure the status is 'active':

  1. Enable User Authentication for writing/uploading files under vsftpd.conf:

  1. After making configuration changes, perform a vsftpd service restart.

Note:

Lab simulation is produced under a control environment. Each environment setup may vary. Refer to the official Ubuntu FTP service documentation for more information.

Verification steps:

Check the event log for the FTP backup status. An OK status indicates a successful upload:

A failed status indicates a failed upload:
