Description

 

This article describes the items being included in the backup config file (.dat) when it is backed up from the GUI dashboard manually and it is backed up with a schedule backup.

It is essentially important when an administrator is doing a routine backup task which requires knowing what items that being backed up and which are not.  

 

Scope

 

FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer.

 

Solution

 

For FortiManager, it will be included with: 

  1. Device Database (Device List, Device Revision file, Templates).
  2. ADOM Database (Policy Package, Objects, ADOM Revision file, Policy Hits Count Statistic).
  3. Global Database.
  4. System Settings (System level config like IP Address, Admin User,  Admin Profile, Password, Email Server, SAML, Certificates, Task Monitor List, etc).
  5. Management Extension Applications (MEAs) Settings if enabled.

 

The items that are excluded in the backup file will be: System Event Logs, FortiGuard Database, SDWAN Monitoring Statistic, and MEA docker image.

 

For FortiAnalyzer, it will be included with:

  1. Device Database (Device List).
  2. Report Configuration (Predefined Report/Chart/Macro/Dataset, Custom Report/Chart/Macro/Dataset).
  3. FortiSOC, Incidents & Events Settings (Event Handler).
  4. Automation Settings (Connector Settings, Playbook).
  5. System Settings (System level config like IP Address, Admin User,  Admin Profile, Password, Email Server, SAML, Certificates, Task Monitor List, ADOM Quota, Data Retention Policy, etc.).
  6. Management Extension Applications (MEAs) Settings if enabled.

 

The items that are excluded in the backup file will be License(s), System Event Logs, FortiGuard Database, Generated Report, Device Archive Logs, Device Analytic Logs, SIEM Fabric Logs, Generated Incident, Playbook Monitor Logs, MEA docker image.
