Technical Tip: How to request for FortiManager/FortiAnalyzer Cloud instance migration to a different...

Scope

FortiManager Cloud/FortiAnalyzer Cloud.

Solution

  1. Users may request to redeploy the currently running instance in the same region.

  2. As of now, below are the currently available regions for FortiManager/FortiAnalyzer Cloud instance deployment.

Asia Pacific - Northeast (Tokyo).
Asia Pacific - Southeast (Sydney).
Canada (Vancouver).
Germany (Frankfurt).
United States (San Jose).

  1. In particular, to redeploy any of the instances in the same region, it is not required to redeploy both FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer instances altogether.

It is only necessary to request for one to be redeployed and keep the other.

It is in contrast to redeploying to a different region where it is requested to destroy both instances as they are in pairs when both are deployed in the same region initially.

The redeploy requirement can be in many scenarios, for example, the instance is not functioning properly after some time the instance is not working well after a major release firmware upgrade or the instance hits a bug after an upgrade etc.

  2. In general, the steps involve as follows:

  • The user opens a TAC case via the support portal.
  • The user puts a request via the created ticket to request redeploy the instance in the same region e.g. only to the FortiManager instance.
  • TAC will re-confirm back to the user the date/time for the event to take place.
  • The user responds with 'Yes' back in the ticket.
  • The user holds the responsibility to back up the current running config, archive log, generated report, and report config for FortiAnalyzer via GUI and CLI.
  • Fortinet destroys the said instance based on the agreed date/time.
  • The user logs back into the support portal and redeploys or reprovisions the new instance type in the same region.
  • If needed, the user will upgrade to the same version of the old instance (usually to the latest major release).
  • The user then restores or imports back the last backup config, archive log, generated report, and report config for FortiAnalyzer via GUI and CLI.
  • The user starts to reconfigure from scratch (for some cases where the user just wants to rebuild everything from fresh).[Optional]
  • The user tests the functionality of the new instance.
