Description This article explains how to work around a console error that may be encountered upon trying to delete a VDOM.
Scope FortiGate v6.2, v6.4, v7.0, v7.2 GA releases
Solution

Admins frequently remove or create VDOMs depending on the current business needs in a multi-VDOM setup.

When attempting to delete a VDOM, an admin may rarely encounter the following console error on the unit after applying the deletion command:

Error message: unregister_vf: waiting for <VDOM_Name> to become free.rt_num = XXX, vf_count = XXX

The chances of encountering this error are low, but a unit with high uptime (close to a year) and many VDOMs configured may produce it.

The only solution is to perform a device reboot, which will release the corresponding section of the system's memory. This will 'free' the VDOM and subsequently allow it to be deleted.

This issue has been identified as bug ID 910551 which is fixed in v7.2.11 at the time of writing.
