Description | This article describes how to resolve an issue where the 'Restore' button is unavailable in FortiGate when a system administrator operates with a custom super admin profile. |
Scope | All supported versions of FortiOS. |
Solution |
The standard behavior for all FortiGate devices is that the 'Administrator' account, with the 'Super_Admin' privilege, can restore the firewall's backup configuration.
It is also possible to create a custom super_admin profile in FortiGate by replicating the exact 'Access Permission' settings of the default super_admin profile (see attachment below). Default Super_Admin Profile:
It can be observed, however, that for any Prof_Admin or Custom_Super_Admin profile with identical 'Access Permission' settings, administrators are unable to restore the configuration, as the 'Restore' button is missing (see attachment below).
However, to resolve this issue, it is necessary to back up the FortiGate configuration, perform a flash format of the device, and complete a fresh installation. Before restoring the previous configuration, ensure that the device's default 'Super_Admin' settings are aligned with those in the backup_config. Once these adjustments are made, restoring the edited configuration will resolve the issue.
