Description This article describes the process of moving Wi-Fi SSID tunnel to a faster interface. For instance, the current FortiAP (FAP)'s SSIDs are connected to a 1G port3 and network administrator prefer to move that to a 10G x1 interface.
Scope FortiGate FortiOS 7.2.+
Solution
  1. Log into the FortiGate GUI and confirm the SSID's traffic mode by navigating to WiFi & Switch Controller -> SSID.

  1. Open Network -> Interfaces and edit the desired port, for instance x1. Assign the corresponding IP address/netmask and enable Security Fabric in the Administrative Access.
  2. Unplug the UTP interface connected to previous interface if needed (port3) and connect that to the destination interface (x1). Alternatively, assign a different IP address/netmask on x1, then connect the FortiAP to x1 or to the switch where the FortiAP are connected.
  3. Navigate to WiFi & Switch Controller to confirm that the FortiAPs are now online.
