Description

This article describes how to resolve CAPWAP disconnection in FortiExtender.

Scope FortiExtender-2xx, 1xx, 5xx.
Solution

Scenario:

  1. FortiExtender has lost connection CAPWAP and does not re-establish the connection.
  2. It has been observed that the FortiExtender is stuck in Sulking mode/CWWS_MAINIP and the EXTD ac_disc daemon is enabled, but no outputs are seen.

Extender status:

    name : FEX-01

    mode : CAPWAP

    session : active

      fext-addr : 0.0.0.0

      ingress-intf :

      fext-wan-addr : 100.x.x.x

      controller-addr : 0.0.0.0:5246,25246

      controller-name :

      management-state : CWWS_MAINIP

    session : standby

      fext-addr : 0.0.0.0

      ingress-intf :

      fext-wan-addr : 100.x.x.x

      controller-addr : 0.0.0.0:5246,25246

      controller-name :

      management-state : CWWS_SULKING (S)

    base-mac : AC:71:2E:xx:xx:xx

    network-mode : ip-passthrough (capwap)

    fgt-backup-mode : backup

    discovery-type : broadcast

    discovery-interval : 5

    echo-interval : 30

    report-interval : 30

    statistics-interval : 120

    mdm-fw-server : fortiextender-firmware.forticloud.com

    os-fw-server : fortiextender-firmware.forticloud.com

  1. However, after restarting the Extender daemon, the discover request/response works fine:

get system app-status

            name type command pid state

           SYSLOGD APP_T_MONIPID syslogd 1113 RUNNING

           CONFIG APP_T_INFRA json_config 1116 RUNNING

           ZEBRA APP_T_MONIPID zebra 1118 RUNNING

           OSPFD APP_T_MONIPID ospfd 1120 RUNNING

           NETD APP_T_INFRA netd 1123 RUNNING

           EXTD APP_T_MONIHB extenderd 1359 RUNNING

execute restartapp EXTD 1359

get extender status

If the issue persists, raise a ticket with Fortinet Technical Support and provide the following debug logs:

get modem status
get extender status
show full
execute log event display
debug info

execute debug EXTD state on
execute debug EXTD ac_disc on
execute debug EXTD event on
execute debug EXTD info on

execute debug log-to-console on

Disable the debug once done:

execute debug log-to-console on

execute debug clear
