Description This article describes how IoT license is assigned to newly detected devices.
Scope FortiEDR and IoT device discovery.
Solution

IoT device discovery performs to identify newly connected non-workstation devices such as printers, cameras, media devices and so on.

IoT license is assigned to each of newly detected non-workstation devices.

However, sometimes the number of IoT licenses in se (ADMINISTRATION -> LICENSING page) does not match with the detected IoT devices (INVENTORY -> IoT Devices page).

Or Remaining IoT device licensing reaches 0 or a negative value, although IoT devices are detected less than the number of License Capacity.

This behavior may occur when IoT device discovery detects not only non-workstation devices but also unmanaged workstation devices which do not have FortiEDR Collector installed yet. \

Unmanaged collector devices can be found in INVENTORY -> Collectors page.

To show the number of non-workstation devices only for the IoT device license in Use, FortiEDR Collector needs to be installed on unmanaged devices or unmanaged devices need to be deleted from the inventory.
