FortiAP
FortiAP devices are thin wireless access points (AP) supporting the latest Wi-Fi technologies (multi-user MIMO 802.11ac Wave 1 and Wave 2, 4x4), as well as 802.11n, 802.11AX , and the demand for plug and play deployment.

Description

This article describes how to export kernel panic crash firmware memory dump from FortiAP to a TFTP Server using firmware memory dump utility for kernel panic crash root cause analysis.

Scope

FortiAP, FortiGate, FortiWiFi.

Solution

1) FortiAP firmware crash memory dump feature is introduced starting FortiAP 6.4 build 186 or 7.0.2 GA release.

2) Enable FortiAP SSH access in the FortiAP-profile (wtp-profile) and under 'Managed FortiAPs' list 'Connect to CLI' should show up as shown below.

Thereafter, FortiAP CLI can be accessed via FortiGate CLI or from SSH Terminals such Putty/TeraTerm:

3) Enable fw-dump on FortiAP CLI:

# cw_diag wlanfw-dump <tftp server ip>

4) If the crash happens again, FortiAP would dump files which are roughly 90M to the TFTP Server.

Zip that and attach it to the Fortinet Support Ticket for crash analysis:

Note.

FortiAP should have IP reach-ability to the TFTP Server.

5) Also attach the following outputs from the FortiAP CLI:

fap-get-status

ut

perf

kp

fap-tech
