Today Fortinet announced the fastest, most powerful, desktop SD-WAN appliance to date: the FortiGate 60F featuring our SOC4 security processor. This extends Fortinet’s commitment to providing Security-Driven Networking solutions by including this technology in our popular FortiGate 60 family, which has sold over 1.5 million units to date.

Encrypted traffic represents a multi-faceted problem for most networks:

  1. With many cloud applications using secure tunnels, any SD-WAN solution that does not decrypt and inspect this traffic will not route and prioritize it correctly. Yet many vendors use standard processors in their products, which slows down performance greatly if inline decryption is enabled. To put it simply, attempting to improve User Quality of Experience (QoE) results in reduced QoE! The FortiGate 60F leverages security-driven networking principals (powered by our purpose-built security processor (SOC4) to deliver the fastest application steering and deep inspection of SSL/TLS encrypted traffic in its class. This ensures that ALL important business traffic is correctly seen, evaluated, and routed for optimal performance and excellent Quality of Experience (QoE) for users. [Note, a full breakdown of this performance comparison can be found in our press release].
  2. Secure tunnels can allow malware and other infected traffic to bypass your perimeter and directly infect endpoint devices. SSL inspection is a must to ensure that the network is properly secured. With more branches connected to the internet via SD-WAN, this protection must sit at the branch itself via Secure SD-WAN. FortiGate 60F consolidates SD-WAN, routing, and advanced security capabilities into a single appliance that enables network leaders to implement Secure SD-WAN quickly and easily.

FortiGate 60F performance numbers speak for themselves, with 10 Gbps firewall performance (15 times better than the industry average), 750 Mbps of SSL inspection throughput (11 times better than the industry average), and 700 Mbps of Threat Prevention (four times better than the industry average). This removes the challenge of encrypted traffic while delivering unparalleled performance and QoE at an optimal TCO.

Each FortiGate is also capable of acting as a consolidation point for management of access layer equipment, laying the groundwork for network leaders to migrate to Fortinet’s Secure SD-Branch architecture when they add FortiSwitch, FortiAP, and/or FortiNAC.
