Technical Tip: MemFree vs MemAvailable for Memory Debug

Description	This Article describes the difference between the Available and Free memory in the 'diag hardware mem list' output.
Scope	FortiWeb, FortiWeb-VM.
Solution	While diagnosing the memory consumption on FortiWeb, the 'diag hardware mem list' is run in Fortiweb CLI. This command gives the below output with a few more parameters: Viva-kvm45 ## diag hardware mem list MemTotal: 10071280 kB MemFree: 7315196 kB  <----- MemAvailable: 7617908 kB  <----- Buffers: 140528 kB Cached: 297528 kB Differences between MemFree vs MemAvailable are underlined here. These terms sound similar but have some differences.  MemFree: The amount of RAM, in Kilobytes. The system left them as unused in the system MemAvailable: The amount of memory, available for starting new applications, without swapping. Related document: hardware mem
