Description

This article describes how to restore FortiSandbox Firmware after an RMA.

Scope FortiSandbox.
Solution

To restore the Firmware:

  1. Download the Firmware image that is suitable for the instance and add it to the TFTP server root folder.
  2. Set up the PC/laptop IP to be in the same subnet as port1 on FortiSandbox. For example:

192.168.0.x Mask 255.255.240.0

  1. Connect to the console port of FortiSandbox with the serial port of the PC or laptop in order to access the CLI.
  2. Log in through the CLI with the default details:
    Username: admin
    Password: (blank)
  3. After logging in for the first time, it is necessary to set after the admin password (which must be between 6 to 64 characters).
  4. Check the IP for port 1 by issuing the command 'show':

  1. To gain access through the GUI, connect the laptop NIC to port1 on FortiSandbox with an RJ45 cable.
  2. Navigate to https://192.168.0.99 and enter the username and password.

Restore Firmware from the GUI:

Navigate to Dashboard -> Status -> Firmware version -> Select the arrow sign -> Upload Firmware -> Upload file -> Submit.

To restore firmware from the CLI:

See the CLI reference in the documentation.

Note: Restoring FortiSandbox configuration after an RMA is not possible due to the fact that the serial number will need to be changed and it is not possible to edit the configuration file before restoring.
