Description This article describes how to download a revision from FortiManager and restore it directly on FortiGate to revert its configuration to a specific state.
Scope FortiGate and FortiManager.
Solution

When the FortiGate is connected to FortiManager, it is possible to use the FortiManager operation 'Revert' to load a saved configuration revision to the Device Database and install it back to the device.

However, suppose the FGFM tunnel is down and the FortiGate is no longer connected to FortiManager. In that case, it is possible to use the following steps to download a device revision and restore it to FortiGate directly.

  1. Under Device Manager, select Managed FortiGate -> Dashboard -> Summary, as shown in this image:

  1. Locate the Widget 'Configuration and Installation' and select 'Revision History', as shown in the image:

  1. Restore the downloaded revision directly to FortiGate using steps 'To restore the FortiGate configuration using the GUI' in this related KB article: Technical Tip: How to restore a FortiGate appliance after RMA

Note:

The firmware version of the FortiGate device should match the one in the downloaded revision.
