Description

This article describes how to resolve an issue where, when trying to upgrade FortiGate, and FortiAPs using Fabric upgrade, the upgrade fails and the error below is received.

Logs: Federated upgrade from system federated-upgrade failed after reaching confirmed.

When hovering the mouse over the upgrade status column, the message 'The device could not be rebooted' appears.

From the configuration file, the following is seen:

 

config system federated-upgrade

set status failed

set failure-reason reboot-failed

Scope

FortiGate v7.0.0 and above.

Solution

When upgrading the FortiGate and FortiAPs using the security fabric upgrade fails, try the following:

 

  1. To reboot the device in the GUI, go to the dashboard and, under the System Information widget, select Reboot as shown in the screenshot below:

  1. To reboot the device from the CLI, enter the following command:

 

execute reboot

 

 

  1. Select 'cancel fabric upgrade'.

  2. Proceed with upgrading the device.

 

After the above steps, the upgrade should be successful.
