Description

This article explains the limit of web filter profiles.
The restrictions on web filter profiles are specific to each FortiGate model. To obtain accurate limits, it is essential to refer to the maximum values table for the particular unit.

Scope

FortiGate.

Solution

The command to verify the number of web filter profiles allowed is:

FortiGate# print tablesize

The partial output of the command 'print tablesize' on a FortiGate 101E is given below:

webfilter.profile: 0 512 512

The 'print tablesize' command on a FortiGate device provides essential information regarding the table size limits for different features.

The output provided includes details about the table size for web filter profiles, as follows:

  1. The maximum number allowed for the child table in its parent entry is 0.
  2. The maximum number allowed per VDOM limit is 512.
  3. The system's global limit for web filter profiles is also specified as 512.

This indicates that within a VDOM, a maximum of 512 web filter profiles can be configured, and the global limit for the entire system is similarly set at 512. All items listed in the maximum values table are subject to either a global limit, which pertains to the entire FortiGate configuration, or a VDOM limit, which is specific to an individual VDOM.

In cases where objects are bound only by a VDOM limit, the global limit is determined by multiplying the VDOM limit by the number of VDOMs for that unit.

Maximum values tables are published in the Fortinet Document Library at https://docs.fortinet.com/.
To view this information in the GUI, refer to the following KB article Technical Note: FortiGate maximum values table.

Note:

Following FortiGate guidelines, the total number of web filter profiles, including the Default web filter profile, is typically designated as 'n-1'. Following the use of the 'print tablesize' command, it was noted that the maximum number of configurable web filter profiles is 512.
This indicates that the total number of configurable web filter profiles, including the Default web filter profile, would adhere to the '512-1' rule.

From v7.6.0, print tablesize fourth column added to show the current usage. Refer to the below document for more information: Object usage included in the print tablesize command output
