Description This article describes how to manage bandwidth usage for an application. Microsoft Teams will be taken as an example, but it is possible to do the same for other applications.
Scope FortiGate.
Solution
  • Access the FortiGate and navigate to Policy and Objects.
  • Select Traffic Shaping to configure bandwidth control policies.
  • Create a new Traffic Shaping Policy by selecting the appropriate option.
  • In the policy settings, specify the relevant details, including the source and destination of the traffic to control.
  • In the destination of the policy select Internet Service and search for Microsoft-Skype_Teams.
  • Define the maximum amount of bandwidth to allow for the specified application, and it is also possible to set up the maximum bandwidth per user. Verify the Microsoft documentation to verify the requirements for Teams.

In this example, 50 Mbps bandwidth is allocated for Microsoft Teams (download). If it is needed to allocate bandwidth for upload as well, enable shared shaper too.
