Description This article describes how to disable the auto update feature in an unmanaged FortiClient version.
Scope FortiClient.
Solution

In some scenarios, the admin may not want users to be notified of updates to the FortiClient software. For instance, in an environment that requires change control procedures and compatibility testing before the alteration of installed software products.

  1. Backup the config file. Edit the following:

forticlient.PNG

...
<update>
   …
   <fail_over_to_fdn>0</fail_over_to_fdn>
   <update_action>disable</update_action>
      <scheduled_update>
                <enabled>0</enabled>
      </scheduled_update>
</update>

  1. Save the file and restore it to the FortiClient. Do not hit apply.

  2. Close FortiClient and re-open. No update prompts should be received moving forward.

This same configuration can be used in combination with the Configurator tool to seamlessly deploy to multiple machines at the time of installation. Refer to the FortiClient Administrator Guide on the documentation site for more details.
