Description This article describes possible reasons that lead to sending unnecessary alert emails on license expiration and offers ways to address the issue.
Assuming current license expires on June 30, if EMS alert is turned on for license expiration or about to expire, FortiClient EMS would start to send out alert email daily 30 days in advance with email title as 'Your license expires in X days (host name of the EMS server here)'  If the license has not been renewed, the alert email is legit and expected, but if it has been renewed, the alert email is no longer expected.

Solution

The EMS server uses the Fortinet support portal master account to check on license information. If the password for the master account has changed and the one saved is outdated, the EMS server would not be able to retrieve the recent renewed license information. If this is the case, logging in to the EMS will see a warning message about the expiring license.

To correct this, refer to the screenshot below, log in to the FortiClient EMS, in Dashboard, under License Information widget, select Edit, and log in with the FortiCloud master account. If login is successful (would also require access to Fortiguard), new license info would be retrieved. Now, logging out and logging back in will no longer show the warning message on license expiration.

Due to bug 1111045, alert emails will still be sent out daily until the current license expires. In this case, 6/30 is when the current license expires and the new license begins; the last email expected to be received is on 6/29. This issue is fixed in EMS v7.2.9 and v7.4.3.
