Description

This article describes the steps to configure a Windows-based client for 802.1X authentication for Forti Authentication. 802.1X Authentication is supported for wired and wireless users. In the context of wired clients windows is the widely used device. Configuring Forti Authenticator for 802.1X can be found on FortiAuthenticator 802.1x EAP-TLS with computer authentication.

Scope FortiAuthenticator and Windows Client.
Solution

Below are the steps to configure the Windows client for 802.1X authentication.

 

Step 1:  Search for services.msc on the Windows machine and open the services application.

Step 2: 'Right-click' on Wired AutoConfig and select Properties.

Step 3: Change the Startup type to Automatic.

Step 4: Restart the Windows machine so that the new changes will apply and start running.

Step 5: Select the respective Ethernet LAN connection, 'right click' and open properties.

Step 6: A new TAB will be available under properties namely Authentication.

Step 7: Select IEEE 802.1X authentication and select Microsoft: Smart Card or other certificate from the drop-down menu.
