Solution |
Below are the steps to configure the Windows client for 802.1X authentication.
By default, Windows does not turn on the services process for Dot1x authentication. Without this process, the endpoint will not be able to respond to EAP-Request/Identity or initiate with EAPOL-Start. Additionally, the panel to configure authentication will not appear in the network adapter settings. To enable this process, follow these steps:
Step 1: Search for services.msc on the Windows machine and open the Services application. Step 2: 'Right-click' on Wired AutoConfig and select Properties. Step 3: Change the Startup type to Automatic.
Step 4: Restart the Windows machine so that the new changes will apply and start running. Step 5: Select the respective Ethernet LAN connection, 'right click' and open properties. Step 6: A new TAB will be available under properties namely Authentication. Step 7: Select IEEE 802.1X authentication and select Microsoft: Smart Card or other certificate from the drop-down menu.
