Description This article describes steps to minimize FortiAP-W2 (22xE, 32xE, 42xE) reboot or AP leave/join issues on FortiGate 7.4.2 or 7.4.3.
Scope FortiAP-W2 6.4, 7.0, 7.2, 7.4 on FortiGate 7.4.2 or 7.4.3.
Solution
  1. When the FortiGate is running FortiOS 7.4.2 or 7.4.3, managed FortiAP-W2 models would become offline randomly.

  2. Workaround: Reboot the FortiAP-W2 units, or the FortiGate needs to run FortiOS 7.4.1 or earlier versions.

  3. Verify whether 'crash' or 'diag_debug_crashlog read' or 'fap-tech' outputs from the AP shows wtpd crash record:

  2. Optionally the FortiGate can be upgraded to 7.4.4 and higher, as it contains a FortiOS bug 998578 fix.

  3. For legacy FortiAP-W2 models (321E and 421E), the bug 955764 is fixed on FortiAP-W2 v6.4.10 interim build 0495, log a FortiAP Ticket with Fortinet Support requesting v6.4.10 firmware.
