| Description | This article offers an overview of the different registration options available for Fortinet products and provides recommendations based on customer circumstances. Special attention is given to the new bulk registration option, which will become available in May 2023 and is highly recommended for most customers. |
| Scope | All Fortinet products and any Fortinet customers. |
| Solution |
Product registration is required to use certain features and customer services such as firmware updates, technical support, and FortiGuard antivirus.
Four registration options are available:
- **NEW** Bulk registration: mass device registration available for all Fortinet devices and products. This is the simplest option and is highly recommended for large MSSPs or other customers purchasing more than a small number of Fortinet products or devices. This process is anticipated to become available in May 2023. - Standard registration: key-based registration for any individual products. This option is recommended for customers purchasing only a small number of individual products. - FortiDeploy: single-key registration for any FortiAPs or FortiGates purchased in bulk. - Enterprise agreement: if an enterprise agreement is in place, Fortinet registers all products on behalf of the user. Fortinet provides an enterprise agreement profile ID and FortiCare account ID. This form of registration is automatically supplied to customers who have made an enterprise agreement with Fortinet: no additional steps are necessary.
Bulk registration is the newest available method of registration. It allows for the mass registration of Fortinet products, devices, and contracts in a short space of time. As a result, it is highly recommended for most customers.
Bulk registration
Bulk registration allows for the simultaneous registration of an indefinite number of any Fortinet products. Once the order has been processed, all licenses, contracts, and hardware devices will be visible in FortiCloud with the customer's FortiCare account. The codes can then be registered in bulk.
See this video for an introduction to bulk registration.
To perform bulk registration, follow this video guide or the steps below:
If a prompt appears listing multiple accounts, select the one designated as the Master User. After logging in with the account, open the panel in the top right with the button that shows the current logged in username. Obtain the FortiCare account ID and username: Provide the account ID and username to the sales representative. The products will be registered to the account in question. Important: ensure the correct details are provided.
After sharing the FortiCare/FortiCloud account details with Fortinet, the Pending Registration option will become available in FortiCloud. Access it by logging in to FortiCloud with the customer account.
Once the products have been registered, they can be provisioned with FortiZTP to the appropriate Fortinet fabric management system such as:
Standard registration:
During standard registration, customers are given a service entitlement .pdf file for each device or product. The file contains a contract registration code for the purchase.
To register the code, follow the steps below:
After registering the products, they can be provisioned with FortiZTP to the appropriate Fortinet fabric management system such as:
After registration, the policies of all devices can be configured from a single interface from the list above.
Because product keys must be individually registered, this process is not recommended for bulk orders.
FortiDeploy:
During FortiDeploy registration, customers receive a single code to validate any number of FortiGates or FortiAPs in either FortiGate Cloud or FortiEdge Cloud, respectively.
To register FortiGates:
To register FortiAPs:
This process can only be used to register FortiGates and FortiAPs in bulk.
Enterprise agreement:
No registration process is necessary for customers who have an enterprise agreement with Fortinet. Fortinet registers all products offered as part of the agreement on the customer's behalf.
