Fortinet has officially renamed FortiToken Cloud to FortiIdentity Cloud, a change that represents more than just a new label. The update signals a strategic shift to expand beyond token-based authentication and position identity as a central pillar of modern cybersecurity. Originally designed to deliver simple two-factor authentication (2FA) through tokens, FortiToken Cloud met an essential need for organizations securing remote workers and sensitive applications. However, as enterprises embraced digital transformation, hybrid work, and cloud adoption, the demand for more advanced and comprehensive identity services grew rapidly.

With FortiIdentity Cloud, Fortinet has expanded the service into a full identity and access management (IAM) platform. The solution now supports federated identity standards such as SAML and OIDC, enabling single sign-on across cloud and on-premises applications to simplify access for users and administrators alike. It incorporates adaptive and risk-based authentication, analyzing factors like user behavior, device type, and location to dynamically adjust access levels and reduce risk. FortiIdentity Cloud also introduces modern passwordless login options, making security both stronger and more user-friendly. In addition, it provides centralized visibility across all authentication events and policies, giving IT teams a unified platform for monitoring, compliance, and reporting.

Crucially, FortiIdentity Cloud integrates seamlessly into the Fortinet Security Fabric, aligning with FortiGate, FortiSASE, and FortiAuthenticator to deliver a consistent Zero Trust Access (ZTA) experience. This positions identity not as a standalone service, but as a cornerstone of a broader, unified security strategy. By making identity the “front door” to applications and data, Fortinet helps organizations shift away from relying solely on network location for access decisions and move toward continuous verification.

For existing customers, the rename requires no changes or disruptions. Tokens, licenses, and existing integrations continue to function exactly as before. What has changed is the vision and roadmap: FortiIdentity Cloud will continue to grow into a more robust identity platform, with planned advancements such as enhanced passwordless technologies, deeper SaaS integrations, improved compliance reporting, and AI-driven risk analysis.

The transition from FortiToken Cloud to FortiIdentity Cloud underscores Fortinet’s belief that identity is now the true perimeter of security. By evolving its cloud service into a comprehensive IAM solution, Fortinet is helping organizations simplify their security architectures, reduce dependency on multiple point solutions, and accelerate adoption of Zero Trust. In short, FortiIdentity Cloud is not just a new name—it is the future of identity security in the Fortinet ecosystem.
